Tallow Balm stays fresh for years when it is refrigerated. It will begin to develop a strong odor after about 6 months, when store at room temperature. However, it is still fine to use. When the temperature is warmer, or if it is been a couple of months, the balm may become grainy. This can be fixed by melting it in the oven at 120 to 150°F (49 to 56°C) and then setting it in the refrigerator so it can solidify and acquire a more smooth texture.
*The consistency of Tallow Balm can vary. Each tallow batch has unique characteristics due to it being a natural products. It will be softer at some times, and firmer at other times.
Beef tallow includes natural fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K, as well as vitamin E. These are so important for general health, especially skin health, and are only found in animals fats. Tallow also contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which has anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, in addition to palmitoleic acid, which has antimicrobial properties.
