When refrigerated, this balm can keep for years. It will develop a strong odor at room temperature after about 6 months, however; it is still fine to use. After a couple of months or if exposed to warm temperatures, the balm may become grainy. This can be fixed by placing the balm in the oven to melt at 120 to 150°F (49 to 56°C). Put it in the refrigerator afterward to let it solidify and achieve a smoother texture.
*Tallow Balm consistancy may vary. Each tallow batch is made up of its own characteristics since it is a natural product. Sometimes it will be softer than other times.
Beef tallow has natural fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K, as well as vitamin E. These are only found in animal fats and are crucial not only for skin health, but general health. Tallow also consists of fats with anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), as well as fats with natural antimicrobial properties, including palmitoleic acid.
